“Tobitate!” Leap for Tomorrow, Young Ambassador Program ~ Report ④ ~

2019年10月7日 07時32分

We selected “Pharmacy: Explore the Field” in this fourth week.  This week we had some activities, such as experiments, and visited the hospital.  In the experiment, we especially enjoyed making capsules.  We made them in two days and thought which methods would be better.  In addition, we made several kinds of medicine with several different substance.  We observed how it melted.
On Thursday, we visited UConn Health Center and looked around the hospital.  The most surprising thing is the way of delivering medicine.  All they had to do is to set medicine in a capsule and push a button.  Then medicine was delivered to the place where we hope to put it.  There were lanes in the wall to deliver medicine and robots to carry medicine.  So I think it is very convenient.
The hospital has two buildings.  All the patients’ rooms in the new one were a private room.  The view from the building was very beautiful because of a glassed-in room.  There were television monitors throughout the corridor and they could check the information of patients’ blood pressure, a heart rate and so on anytime.  I thought that America advanced their technology the most in the world.
Students had the experience of a tea ceremony.  It was my second ambassador activity.  After that they put maccha (green tea) on ice cream or into milk.  Everyone enjoyed maccha.
My roommate was the same student of the previous week.  So we could bond stronger.
“UConn Pre-college Summer” was a part of my life while studying in the U.S.  It will be finished in the end of this week.  Four weeks have passed since I arrived in the U.S.  I met many people and studied many things.  It was a very satisfying four weeks.  I’ll finish American buffet-style meals at the dining hall where I have visited for a month and the life in the dormitory.  The second part is starting from the next week.  I’m going to stay in a hotel and study at Mr. Mani’s laboratory.  I want to make every day count and work hard to learn a lot.

“Tobitate!” Leap for Tomorrow, Young Ambassador Program ~ Report ③ ~

2019年9月30日 07時04分

I chose “Digital Animation & Motion Graphics” this week.  In the class we learned basics of an animation and effects such as fonts and made a short movie in pair.  Then we showed the movie each other and exchanged ideas and advice.  Everyone gave their advice one after another.  We could have a good discussion.
We visited “Connecticut Science Center” in a workshop.  There was a human anatomical model.  It feels so real and made us excited.  We could observe muscles, blood vessels, bones, and so on.  I had homework about it.  But I couldn’t understand science terms because they were English.  I could understand meanings of questions.  But I had difficulties in writing answers.  In Space area, there were some places where we could watch a movie like seeing samples of food weight in space and a planetarium.
My roommate was a Chinese girl who lives in California.  We folded origami together and talked about our own mother languages.  She was very interested in Japanese and practiced writing Hiragana and Katakana.  We taught meanings of kanji each other because some kanji have different meanings between Chinese and Japanese.  We also had a nice chat about our schools.  We learned differences of each school.
In Ambassador activity, I performed a demonstration of a tea ceremony for my friends and had them experience some Japanese cultures.  Everyone was so happy.
The fourth week is the last week of “Uconn Pre-College Summer.”  I am going to take a “Pharmacy: Explore the Field ”class.

July 31st (Wed) Sugaku Koshien 2019

2019年9月30日 07時03分

On Wednesday July 31, the elimination round of “Sugaku Koshien 2019” was held in Okayama.  3 teams (second and third graders of the general and the science course, 12 students in total) participated in it.  The whole country was divided into 12 blocks and our prefecture, Ehime belongs to “Chugoku Shikoku block.”  Sugaku Koshien 2019 is the 12th.  The number of participants are increasing rapidly for this 10 years.  More than 200 students participated in this event this year.  It was really got lively.  In the heat our school’s mathematical elites worked on the difficult problems and did their best.  We hope that students will make use of this experience and keep up their interest in mathematics from now on.

July 28th (Sun) The 5th Kahaku Scientific Research Presentation Meeting

2019年9月17日 10時17分

Three students participated the scientific research presentation meeting.  They gave the following presentations:
In the stage section: “Study on quantity of Ascorbic acid which is included in cyanobacteria under the different light condition”
  In the poster section:
“Experiences of the field work in New Zealand”
“Estimate of paleo environment by pollen fossils”
In the stage section, they won the prize of Superintendent of Board of Education in Ehime and were ranked the 3rd.  This presentation meeting was helpful for students because there were a lot of investigations from fundamental science to applied science.  Some students took part in this meeting from other prefectures.
