August 30th (Fri) “The 7th Kagaku-no-Koshien junior in Ehime”

2019年10月13日 16時17分

On August 30th, “The 7th Kagaku-no-Koshien junior in Ehime (annual scientific competition for junior high school students)” was held.  Ito Yuuki and Fujiwara Ryo, who are the students of the science course, joined it as an instructor.  They gave their presentation for junior high school students.  They have received advice from Dr. Sugiura Miwa, an associate professor of Ehime University.
Their presentation title was “Differences in quantity of vitamin C contained in plants grown under the different conditions of the sunlight.”  Although it was difficult to understand for junior high school students, they spoke kindly asking some quizzes and choosing easy words.
I think they can make good use of these experiences in the future.  They had a very good time.

August 26th (Mon) Tobe-yaki group (From Icho-girls to Ume-chans)

2019年10月13日 16時16分

Last year, the students of Tobe branch school made a broach using the glaze which Icho (ginkgo in English)-girls made with leaves of ginkgo trees in Matsuyama Minami High School.  When they sold the broaches in their school festival, they received a high evaluation! (There is a picture below.)
By the way, this year Ume (plum in English)-chans are going to produce a small dish with the glaze made from branches of Nanaore plums in Tobe Town.  The other day, the first trial products were made by Ume-chans.  They used small unglazed pots made by students of Tobe branch school.  By using ash (burned plums) containing iron, they made a green glaze.  When they mixed it with feldspar, its color turns into white.  They will continue making pots with this glaze, making improvements of it.
Although the report of Ume-chans has been stopped temporarily, their research is going well.  I am planning to report it again.  And they want to make not only the glaze that Icho-girls and Ume-chans hope but also the glaze that students of Tobe branch school want to use.
They will try to make fascinating “Tobe-yaki.”  They would like to ask continued support.      They are going to sell their small dishes in the school festival of Tobe branch high school on Saturday, November 9th.  Please look forward to seeing their dishes then.                     (201HR     H.Y.)

August 24th (Sat)“Get Together! Science girls in Shikoku!”

2019年10月11日 07時07分

On August 24th, “Get Together! Science Girls!”, a scientific research meeting for girl students who like science, was held at the Faculty of Science in Ehime University.  It was organized by Seishin Junior High School and Seishin Girls’ High School.
Three second graders who belong to “water droplets group” and four students of the science course participated in it.  There were eight presentations from six schools including our high school.  Water Droplets group gave their presentation about splashes of water.  It was the first time for the group to make a presentation outside their own school.  But they could announced their results of research with a reliable attitude.  They also answered questions in the Q & A session and received some advice.
Our four students are the only boy in the event.  They actively asked some questions and learned many things.  After the scientific presentations, they were separated into a small group and talked with female students of Ehime University about their research and their school lives.  They also interacted with students from other schools.
Every participants were inspired by other schools’ presentations.  They decided to do their best.

August 7th(Thu) and 8th(Fri) The 1st year of Reiwa era SSH High School Presentation Meeting

2019年10月10日 16時15分

From August 7th to August 8th, there was “The 1st year of Reiwa era SSH High School Presentation Meeting” in Kobe international exhibition hall.  218 Japanese high schools and 23 foreign high schools joined the event.  About 4,500 students and teachers took part in it.  Three students of our high school also participated in it.  They are all third graders and belong to the water droplets research group
This year our students made and displayed a small version of experiment devices.  They showed how to do the experiment and gave poster presentation in group.  They gave some ideas.
They couldn’t have an enough rest because many people wanted to listen to their presentation.  Students of the water droplets research group have given many presentations.  But they had never experienced such a long presentation.  Although they were very tired on the first day, they were filled with comfortable feelings.  They received a lot of questions and advice from people who had listened to their presentation.  They could get some hints to interpret their results.
