about Matsuyama Minami High School

Ehime Prefectural Matsuyama Minami High School has been designated as a Super Science High School (SSH) by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology since 2002. We have been researching and developing programs for science education in cooperation with universities and research institutes. We try to bring fascinating and inspiring science activities not only to our students but also to the local community. Each of our students does a great deal of individual research, and because of their strenuous effort, they have won prizes in various kinds of science fairs.

2020/08/24 1st Prize in WiDS HIROSHIMA Ideathon 2020 finalists presentation contest

2020年9月10日 19時39分

On Aug. 22nd, three students participated in the final of the online presentation contest held by WiDS (Women in Data Science), which is an ICME (Institute for Computational & Mathematical Engineering)-led activity.  It aims to foster the personnel specialized in the field of Data Science regardless of gender.
Their research theme was “Preparation against the Nankai Trough Earthquake”.  Using  data from the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (RESAS, e-net), they talked about “new designated shelters and life-saving stations”, “Disaster Manuals in foreign languages” “Usage of exchange students of volunteers” and “Effect of pictograms”.
Brilliantly, they won first prize in Japan!

I participated in the contest for the first time.  It was a good experience for me.  I was glad because the result of the contest was quite satisfactory.  I want to use this experience and take on research in the future.  ( 205HR  Sakura Shiraishi )
