about Matsuyama Minami High School

Ehime Prefectural Matsuyama Minami High School has been designated as a Super Science High School (SSH) by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology since 2002. We have been researching and developing programs for science education in cooperation with universities and research institutes. We try to bring fascinating and inspiring science activities not only to our students but also to the local community. Each of our students does a great deal of individual research, and because of their strenuous effort, they have won prizes in various kinds of science fairs.

Participation Record: Japan Super Science Fair 2024 (JSSF2024)

2024年11月14日 18時00分

Two second-year students from our science and mathematics course participated in an event sponsored by Ritsumeikan High School. A total of 37 schools from 21 countries gathered from Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kenya, Malaysia, Nepal, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Russia, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States, Vietnam, and Japan.

The theme of this year's JSSF was "Beyond the Horizon". Through various scientific exchanges, including Oral presentations and poster sessions, we were able to experience high level research on global issues of our generation and to come into contact with diverse points of view.
On Day 4, each group went sightseeing in Kyoto and was able to cultivate friendships that went "Beyond national borders”. On the other hand, we were overwhelmed by the speed of communication in English, especially its speed. In addition to making use of this experience in our future English learning, we would like to take on the challenge of "turning failure into growth" in international development projects such as Taiwanese scientific exchange.

Lastly, I still can't get out of my mind what a Russian high school student said at the closing ceremony, "Everyone gathered here may be of different nationalities, but we should have the same goal of improving society as much as possible."

I was able to have an invaluable experience over those 5 days. I was impressed by the behavior of the Ritsumeikan High School students, who were extremely active. Another thing that particularly sticks in my mind is just how friendly the students at the buddy school in Thailand were. I would like to once again express my great respect to Ritsumeikan High School, which has led the SSH activities for 23 years. - 209 HOSODA
